Last Wednesday Nikita and I met a local by the name of R. who we had a really amazing discussion with. From the outset it was obvious that he had a very tough life and his family was struggling. Older brother in jail and younger brother involved in ‘some crazy stuff’ as he said . His mom wanted him to move to Elsalvador to be with his dad who was a pastor and could teach him about God – R confessed he did not know God at all and that he really did not want to leave his mom.
Yesterday while I was walking on the beach I bumped into R and he immediately thanked me for our conversation a few days back and said he spoke to his mother about our discussion, read the brochure I had given him and said that he realised he can learn about God right here on the island and that he did not need to leave. After a further conversation he asked for a Bible and a study. We made arrangements to meet this morning near the beach.
So this morning as I got to the meeting place , I meet a second chap on the beach called B and I ask him if he had seen R. While waiting for R. he asks why I’m waiting for him and I tell him that I have brought him a Bible. The transformation in B is immediate and asks if I have one for him. He is a lone caretaker on a remote island (no one else on the island) about an hour away and has been there for 3-4 years and he is in desperate need of a Bible. He was literally on the island for a few hours to get supplies. So after another 30 min I left him with R’s Bible and a bible teach book and explained how he could self study and reach out for more info (Unfortunately they have no internet or mobile coverage on his island) …….Now all I need to do is plan how we can get to his island for a RV 🙂
