Need Greaters

Stepover  Step Over into….. Belize

A term we had not really heard of until a few months ago – Not until we started researching and planning our trip to Belize.

So what is a “Need Greater”?

A Need Greater is someone who serves where there is a greater need than perhaps in their own territory. As a Need Greater, a person steps out of their comfort zone and takes on a new assignment in Jehovah’s organisation helping in the ministry, giving talks, or taking Bible studies, whatever the need may be in your own country or abroad.

Thankfully we have many articles in the magazines that give practical advice on how to approach this goal:

KM 8/11 pp 4-6 – Can You “Step Over Into Macedonia”?

WT09 12/15 pp 1-4 – Can You Step Over Into Macedonia?

WT99 10/15 pp 23-27 – Can You Serve in a Foreign Field?

After prayerfully considering these articles, we used the yearbook to shortlist a few countries that appealed to us based on the need in the territory. At our recent international convention in the UK we used the opportunity to speak to a number of foreign delegates from these countries about their personal experiences and decided that we would love to ‘taste’ this form of service for ourselves.

We then wrote to the Mexican Branch office, as outlined in the WT09 12/15 explaining our goal and waited in anticipation for their response. A few days later we received a very encouraging letter back with the names of 3 congregations in Belize that required assistance and additional advice on serving in the country.

As you can imagine we were very excited and wrote to the local congregations as per the guidance from the branch office and the local brothers were very helpful in assisting us plan the finer details of our trip.

We are now off to San Pedro on Ambergris Caye…………………..
